| Metal Gear RAY Army [All Difficulties] |
| |
| Contact Otacon frequently at the beginning of the battle. He provides some of the clues and strategies listed here. Equip the Rations and Chaff Grenades. Raiden can run while throwing a Chaff. The electronic jamming will make it harder for the RAYs to hit Raiden with missiles, and they will be unable to lock on with their machine guns. You can avoid machinegun and missile attacks by performing the torso-axil jump at just the right instant. RAYs have different warnings for each type of attack. The machinegun attack comes after a RAY hides its head behind its arm for a moment. When a RAY launches homing missiles, Raiden can hear the sonar targeting lock of their guidance system. Before a RAY fires its rail gun, it must open its faceplate and draw outside energy. The only attack that really comes with little warning is when a RAY fires missiles from its knees. But you can avoid this attack by using the Chaff Grenades and staying close to RAYs that have jumped into the ring with Raiden. After you have set off a Chaff Grenade, equip the Stinger Missile Launcher. You'll notice targets outlined at the RAY's knees and head. The way to attack a RAY and cause maximum damage is to fire one missile at the knee, then one at the head. When a RAY is hit in the knee, it buckles over from the impact. The head will lean over the impacted knee and the faceplate will open. So, after you have fired a missiles at the knee, raise the Stinger's scope just slightly, and the head should fall into the lock-on area. Missiles that strike a RAYs head while its faceplate is open inflict a tremendous amount of damage. After you have reduced one of the RAYs to half of its health, it will jump into the central ring with Raiden. By jumping away at just the right time, Raiden can avoid damage from the force of this entrance. The RAYs strategy shifts at this point. While the RAY inside the ring attacks with its machinegun, rail-gun, and knee-missiles, the RAYs outside the ring will target homing missiles at Raiden. By staying in fairly close range of the RAY inside the arena, the RAYs outside the ring won't risk firing missiles. If you continually throw Chaff Grenades to maintain the electronic interference, then the only attack you have to worry about from the RAY in the ring is the rail gun, and possibly an occasional stomp of the feet. Target the RAY inside the ring with the Stinger, continuing the same strategy of shooting the knee and then the open faceplate. After each successful attack, unequip the Stinger and move. If you are short on Rations, sometimes one will spawn in the center of the arena. Stinger Missiles will appear on the outskirts of the ring when Raiden gets low. - By Randy1028 | ||

| To win this battle on the VERY EASY Level, you must defeat 3 Metal Gear RAYS To win this battle on the EASY Level, you must defeat 3 Metal Gear RAYS To win this battle on the NORMAL Level, you must defeat 5* Metal Gear RAYS To win this battle on the HARD Level, you must defeat 12 Metal Gear RAYS To win this battle on the EXTREME Level, you must defeat 20 Metal Gear RAYS * = On the NORMAL difficulty level, you must destroy 5 Metal Gear RAYS. But you will never win the battle unless you destroy a certain MG RAY. RAY-R05E. So if you see this RAY on the the Life Bar Gauge, find it on the battle field and destroy it. Then the battle will be over. - By Randy1028 | ||

| This battle isn't all that hard, it's really more a test of endurance. Basically, all you must do is kill off a set number of RAYs, but the number increases each difficulty level. To kill a RAY, you must shoot the bastard in it's head. This does little damage, but it works. Another coa is to shoot one in it's knees, (it'll appear as if it's in pain) then let 'er rip into it's 'mouth'. Keep it up until all of them are destroyed. A third way to do it requires a large ammount of chaff, but is identical to strategy #2. The latter strategy is a great way to burn missiles. Keep an eye on your supply, and you'll be fine. If you need more, ammo boxes appear on both sides of the ring. If you need a ration, one occasionally appears centre-ring. RAY attacks a number of ways, most of which are pretty easy to avoid with good timing. The machine guns are lightly damaging and easy to avoid with a well-timed torso-axial. You can also delfect some of the bullets with your sword, but it's really a waste of time. RAY likes to shorten your life with back-fired seeker missiles. To avoid RAY's seekers, stand in place for a short whil after RAY launched the off, the flip away before they impact. Listen for the beeping of the missile's targeting system to know when to move. RAY also has knee-rockets. These are just like the seekers, but they aren't fired over head. You can dodge them the same way, but it's kinda harder to do. When up close and personal, RAY'll try to step on you. Even if it misses, you'll still get knocked off your ass by the force of it alone. If you torso-axial at precisely the right moment you won't fall. RAY also has a pressurized water-jet. Just think of it as a firehose on steroids. It is easily avoided with a torso-axial. Once you knock a RAY down to 50% energy, it'll jump into the ring with you. This RAY attacks normally and has a few new moves, while the others try to missile you to death. If you stay close to the RAY inside the arena, the others will not fire. This is a double edged sword, 'cause the inside-ring RAY will most likely stomp on you, to kill you instantly (It's kinda weird, Raiden can take a barrage of missles and still live, but can't get stepped on.) or flatten you with it's pressurized water jet. Oh, yeah. One more stipulation, on normal and above, you won't win unless you whack RAY-RO5E. It took me a while to figure it out. Good luck on Solidus, kid. Snake out. - By SolidBill876 | ||

| Basically, the easiest way to defeat the rays is to be very quick. At the beginning when the three rays are outside of the ring, I made a great observation about the rays. They do the same attacks in the beginning. What you should do is, when it starts and the rays are roaring, run a couple of steps and do a cartwheel. Immediately (during the torso-axial) pull up your stinger and body armor. QUICKLY shoot the middle ray in a knee and then, right after the missile hits, fire another at its head. IMMEDIATELY do the same to the ray on the right because he is next to fire. Again, IMMEDIATELY after that, fire a stinger at the leg of the ray on the far left. As he will have already begun shooting you must run backwards and fire one at his now-open mouth. Now, move to the left and shoot at the open mouth of the middle ray who has started shooting his laser. By now, your friendly ray on the right has shot his rockets into the air to extinguish the life force of our hero. As the other rays pull themselves together, they will join their buddy in roasting Raiden. So, you must run all over the place avoiding the death from above and, all the while, taking every opportunity to destroy one or all to the halfway point. Now, when the first ray steps up to bat, avoid being landed on. The closer you get to the monkey in the middle, the less chance there is of one of his buddies to put their two cents in...and the more of a chance there is that he'll step on you. Also, if you get farther away, it's harder to dodge the monkey's attacks and he shoots his jet-propelled knee rockets. Now, to defeat the middle monkey the fastest is one of two ways. The first, and less stinger reducing, is the up close and personal way: When it shoots it's wing machine gun run in the same direction it's wing moves (to the right or left) until it stops shooting. When he stops, he will turn towards you and shoot his laser. It is imparative that you do not get hit by this, as it is very accurate and VERY deadly. If you hit him in the open mouth, it takes of like a third or fourth of his life. If it's down to less than a fourth of life after a head shot, just point the stinger at it's head and shoot right when the target appears. The other way is to shoot it in the knee and then right in it's mouth and, while it recovers, keep the stinger on one of it's knee caps. This way uses double the missiles and has a small chance that you get hit by it's laser. An optional tactic for this is to shoot an outsider in the face and run away from the middle ray before he attacks. On both of these, make sure you hit it in the face! Now, while the middle monkey is leaving, you will be able to shoot at the others to make it a faster fight. While it stumbles around on the arena shoot one of the others in the knee caps and in the mouth. When doing this, make sure you don't hit the ray you just took out as it will be a waste of propellant. If this happens, all is not lost...just fire another rocket either at the other ray's head or the same one. Right when the defeated ray jumps from the arena another will jump on and more chaos ensues! In the event of a successful attack to you, quickly use a ration and put your body armor on. You must save rations for the Solidus battle! - By Ace | ||
